National Museum of American History - Outdoor Banner Rigging

Washington, D.C. — 2012
Geiger Engineers was engaged to analyze and design removable banners for the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. The 15' wide by 40' tall outdoor banners flank the museum entrance off of the National Mall and promote the Smithsonian's newest exhibit. The mesh banners are supported by lightweight carbon fiber battens and are anchored to the existing structure via steel cables. In addition to providing structural engineering of the banners and their support system, Geiger Engineers also evaluated the method of anchoring into the museum structure.
