2002 World Cup Main Stadium

Seoul, Korea — 2001
Geiger Engineers was the structural engineer for the Seoul World Cup Stadium's 40,890 sq. m (440,179 sq. ft) roof canopy. The tensile membrane and glass canopy is supported on 16 masts and covers 65,000 seats. The canopy structure is a unique spatial network of truss members and is clad with a prestressed tensile membrane of PTFE-coated fiberglass fabric and polycarbonate glazing resulting in the entire roof being either translucent or transparent. The stadium design-build contract was awarded to Samsung Engineering Ltd. with Beyond Space Group Architects and Geiger Engineers in a design-build competition.
