Formerly known as the Florida Suncoast Dome, Tropicana Field seats 43,000 for baseball. The stadium, designed primarily for baseball, was key to the Tampa Bay region's successful bid for a Major League franchise and is now home to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The facility was the interim home of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. In addition to hockey, the facility hosts many other events including trade shows, concerts, basketball, and exhibition tennis. The venue set the current attendance record for NHL hockey as well as attendance records for indoor concerts. Tropicana Field was the venue for the 1990 Davis Cup Finals. Tropicana Field is covered by a unique translucent fiberglass membrane roof, supported by the world's largest Cabledome structure. The roof structure has set a new benchmark for economical enclosure of stadia. The roof is 706 ft in diameter and is sloped approximately 6 degrees to provide appropriate headroom for baseball, and at the same time minimize the building's enclosed volume.
